The X2 Omni robot vacuum-mop is the latest in Ecovacs range of hybrid robot vacuum mops. This wet/dry model comes with the upgraded AIVI 3D2.0 lidar system from Ecovacs, which provides improved mapping and obstruction avoidance. The system is dual-laser LiDAR -- similar to what is used in self-driving cars and is able to scan an area of up to 32 feet by 270 degrees. This translates to more precise mapping, faster response times, and higher cleaning accuracy.

It also has a rotating mopping mat made of chenille, which makes it much easier to scrub hard spots than traditional mops. In my testing the X2 Omni took just over a minute to wash its pad before getting to work. I also noticed that it was more precise than other models that seemed to follow a grid route around rooms. It was able navigate corners and edges of my rooms, and also create "Zambani patterns" across the middle of the room. It returned to its OMNI Station frequently to empty the dustbin, and wash the mop with hot water before beginning another cleaning task.

Like other Ecovacs products The X2 Omni is a breeze to set up and start using. It takes just minutes to put the dock in place, plug it in and connect to your home Wi-Fi network. Then, you're able to launch the app and begin with your first task of cleaning. I was able customize my floor plan in about 15 minutes. On the opposite side, you'll see a motorised floorbrush and a single side brush that pushes dust away from the edges and into the main path of its'mouth.' It's a little smaller than the main brushes of the iRobot Roomba S9 which I found made it easier to reach under couches and chairs.

Its mapping system allows you to define no-mop areas as well as specific cleaning zones. It is prone to hitting objects like its charging station, and isn't the best at climbing over carpets. It did a great job of picking up pet hair from floors that were bare, though, and in our tests it was able to pick up 89.5 percent of cat litter, which puts it ahead of all but the most powerful robots we've tested.

While it's controllable via the app, the X8 Hybrid also comes with physical buttons on its base, which allow you to select a cleaning mode, and switch the robot off or on. The robot performed well in our tests on hardwood floors and food particles. It ate everything from a single rice grain to multiple pet food pieces in only one swipe. It had some difficulties transitioning to rugs but in general this vacuum cleaner is great for large rooms with both types of flooring and a variety of pets.

The A4s Pro is expensive however it's a great option for those who wish to be able to leave the house with no hands on so they can get out and do other things or perform household chores. The A4s Pro also offers a handy auto cleaning mode that automatically boosts suction power to tackle difficult spills and dirt, and it includes an electric ElectroWall which allows you to place boundaries where the robot isn't allowed to access.

This budget-friendly robot from a popular new brand is the cheapest we've ever tested, and provides incredible value for money. The basic navigation system employs an extremely basic random pathing algorithm that isn't equipped with room mapping capabilities, which makes it less time efficient than other models on this list. It's still able to navigate under furniture and into corners. Mopping mode performed well in our tests, picking up stray hair and other debris.

5. Shark iQ

Shark's iQ may not be as sturdy as the Roomba S9, but it is superior in general at getting rid of pet hair on all surfaces. It is more effective of cleaning carpets with low piles and bare floors. It also utilizes the smart-pathing software for better maneuverability. It also allows you to transfer it to a particular area, and its advanced set of automation features include no-go zones and scheduling. It can even to pause and resume cleaning sessions and is perfect for homes with pets.

Its self cleaning brushroll prevents tangles and can hold up to 30 day's worth of dirt. It has a set of side brushes that are angled to reach into corners, as well as a multi-stage filter system that captures dust, dander and allergens.
